The Harford County community is mourning the death of Christopher Larry Grimsley, 40, who was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Sunday morning, August 30, 2026.
According to the Maryland State Police, troopers assigned to the Bel Air Barrack responded at approximately 4:14 a.m. to the intersection of Maryland Route 152 and Maryland Route 147 after receiving a report of a serious collision.
Preliminary information from investigators indicates that a Toyota 4Runner was traveling south on Route 147 when it ran a red light. The SUV then struck the front passenger side of a Volkswagen Jetta traveling north on Route 152.
Grimsley was driving the Volkswagen. Emergency personnel responded to the scene, but he suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota was identified as 27-year-old Todd Dunaway, who survived the collision and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.
Maryland State Police indicated that impairment may have been a factor in the crash. That remains part of the preliminary investigation, however, and authorities have not announced a final determination regarding the circumstances or responsibility for the collision.
For Grimsley’s family and friends, his death represents a devastating and sudden loss. At 40 years old, his life was cut short in the early-morning collision, leaving those closest to him to cope with the shock of his passing.
Although authorities have confirmed Grimsley’s identity and age, limited verified information is currently available about his personal life, including his family, career, education and interests. Those details should be left to relatives and an authorized obituary to provide rather than relying on unconfirmed information.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team continues to investigate the collision. Investigators are expected to examine the vehicles, roadway evidence, witness accounts and other available evidence as they work to establish the complete sequence of events.
As the investigation continues, Christopher Larry Grimsley’s loved ones are left to remember him for the life he lived rather than the circumstances of the crash that ended it.
His passing has brought sorrow to those who knew him, while the ongoing investigation serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences that can follow a serious roadway collision.
Funeral, visitation and memorial arrangements for Grimsley had not been confirmed in the information provided. Additional details may be released by his family or funeral home as arrangements are finalized.
May Christopher Larry Grimsley rest in peace, and may his family and loved ones find strength and comfort during this difficult time.
