A serious road accident has been reported in Nuriootpa, South Australia, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, as emergency services responded to a major crash in the Barossa Valley.
The latest verified reports indicate that the incident is connected to a fatal collision on the Sturt Highway at nearby Daveyston. South Australia Police confirmed that a 29-year-old woman from Wallaroo died at the scene after a Toyota hatchback and a Suzuki SUV collided shortly before 8:30 a.m.
The crash also left the 32-year-old driver of the Toyota, from Kilkenny, injured. She was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital, with her injuries reported as non-life-threatening. The incident caused significant traffic disruption along the Sturt Highway, with northbound traffic blocked and southbound traffic restricted while emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene. Police urged motorists to avoid the affected area where possible.
Reports from motorists indicate that the vehicle involved in the fatal collision may have been travelling on the wrong side of the highway before the crash, with one driver saying she encountered the vehicle in the Nuriootpa area more than 10 kilometres from the eventual crash site.
