New York City is mourning the tragic death of Erin Piacenti, a 32-year-old woman from Chester, New Jersey, who was fatally stabbed in what authorities described as a random and unprovoked attack in the heart of Times Square. Piacenti was attacked Monday afternoon, August 31, 2026, near West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue and later died at Bellevue Hospital from her injuries.
Police said a second victim, a 68-year-old man, was also stabbed during the incident and remained hospitalized in stable condition. Investigators said the violence began when a woman armed with two knives allegedly approached the man after he had exited the subway and was waiting to cross the street with his wife. The suspect then moved toward Piacenti and allegedly stabbed her in the abdomen before fleeing toward an NYPD substation in Times Square.
The suspect was identified by police as 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros of Queens. Officers confronted her after witnesses alerted authorities. According to police, Cisneros refused repeated commands to drop the knives and allegedly threatened the officers. Officers deployed Tasers twice, but she continued to advance while armed, prompting two officers to fire their service weapons. Cisneros was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police said she had a documented mental-health history, and authorities have indicated that the attack did not appear to be terrorism-related.

She worked as a vice president of business selection and conflicts at Bank of America, whose Manhattan offices were located close to where she was attacked.
