Stanley Andrew Fraind, known affectionately to many as Stan and Buddy, passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the age of 84. His death marks the loss of a respected educator, devoted husband and father, and cherished friend whose life was defined by learning, service and the lasting connections he made with others.
Stan was born June 4, 1942, in Berwick, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Steven and Mary (Potochnak) Fraind. A proud member of the Berwick High School Class of 1960, he continued his education at Bloomsburg University, where he earned his teaching degree, before receiving a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
His dedication to education extended across several areas of study. Stan was certified to teach mathematics, physics and chemistry, reflecting both his strong academic abilities and his commitment to helping young people learn and understand the world around them.
In 1970, Stan began his teaching career at Crestwood High School, where he spent many years encouraging and guiding students. He retired from Crestwood in 1997 following a meaningful career in education. During his years at the school, he also established Crestwood’s computer program, demonstrating his willingness to embrace emerging technology and introduce new opportunities for students.
Stan took great pride in his work as an educator, and his influence extended beyond the classroom. The lessons he shared and the encouragement he offered became part of the memories carried by generations of students and colleagues.
Outside of his professional life, Stan found joy in astronomy and in contemplating the mysteries and vastness of the universe. He was also a devoted lover of dogs, an affection reflected in the special bond he shared with his beloved dog, Princess Snuggles.
Stan was a member of Cross Point Bible Church, formerly known as Berwick Bible Church, where his faith remained an important part of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Steve “Sonny” Fraind, and his sisters, Marion Yachimowski and Maxine Buehler.
He leaves behind his loving wife, the former Margaret Mutarelli, whom he married on August 2, 1980, and his daughter, Lori Christine Fraind of Berwick. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Princess Snuggles; nephews Bobby Buehler, Joseph Yachimowski and Steve Friand; and nieces Maryann Buehler and Cindy Maczuga.
Family, friends, former students and members of the community will have an opportunity to gather and remember Stan during services at Cross Point Bible Church. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service begins at 11 a.m. Saturday. The service will be held at the church at 1426 Spring Garden Ave. in Berwick, followed by burial at Elan Memorial Park.
For those who knew Stan, his memory will live on through the students he taught, the people he encouraged, the family he loved and the many interests that brought him happiness throughout his life. His career in education was not simply a profession but a way of serving others, and the impact of that dedication will remain with those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Stanley Andrew Fraind leaves behind a legacy built on knowledge, faith, family and service. As his loved ones gather to celebrate his life, they will undoubtedly remember a man who valued education, embraced new ideas, cherished animals and found wonder in the world around him.
