The crash was reported at approximately 7:27 a.m. on August 24, when emergency personnel responded to Delaware Avenue near Fisher Boulevard in Delmar.
Investigators determined that Hynes was traveling westbound when a vehicle operated by Daniel Holleran, 71, of Holland, Pennsylvania, attempted to make a left turn and failed to yield the right of way.
Police said Hynes managed to avoid Holleran’s vehicle. During the evasive maneuver, however, Hynes’ vehicle entered the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a vehicle operated by Christopher M. Hadsell, 48, of East Berne.
Hynes was seriously injured and transported for medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he later died from the injuries he sustained in the crash.
Following the investigation, Holleran was issued a Uniform Traffic Ticket for failure to yield the right of way while making a left turn, in violation of New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law §1141. Investigators determined that alcohol or illegal substances were not contributing factors in the collision.
