The Paducah community is mourning the death of Kent Bohanon, 46, who passed away on August 29, 2026, leaving behind a family, friends, professional colleagues and a wide circle of people whose lives were touched by his generosity, faith, humor and willingness to help others.
Born on May 7, 1980, Kent was a 1998 graduate of St. Mary’s High School before continuing his education at Murray State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology and later a Master of Business Administration. He went on to establish a successful career as the owner of Kent Bohanon State Farm Agency, earning the professional designations Chartered Financial Consultant and Retirement Income Professional.
For those who knew Kent, however, his professional accomplishments were only one part of the story. He was remembered as an outgoing and generous man whose sense of humor, storytelling and infectious laughter made him a memorable presence among family, friends and colleagues.
Kent was also known for having a servant’s heart. He volunteered through his church and coached soccer and basketball through Upward, while regularly making himself available when friends or relatives needed help. His willingness to give his time and energy to others became one of the qualities that people will remember most.
Faith was another important part of Kent’s life. He was a member of Lone Oak First Baptist Church and particularly valued his Wednesday morning Bible study group. The fellowship, prayer and friendships he found there became an important part of his spiritual life.
Above all else, Kent was devoted to his family. He shared 20 years of marriage with his wife, Tracy Perkinson Bohanon, and was the proud father of Jayce and Reese Bohanon. Those closest to him described being a husband and father as among the roles he cherished most.
He loved supporting his children, attending their activities, cheering them on and watching them grow. His family remained at the center of his life, and the memories they created together will now become an important part of his legacy.
Kent is also survived by his parents, John (Brenda) Bohanon and Carolyn Bohanon; his sister, Laura (Todd) Duff of Paducah; his father- and mother-in-law, Greg and Phyllis Perkinson; and many extended family members and friends.
His professional life was similarly shaped by relationships. Members of his State Farm DHC study group became close friends and a source of encouragement, accountability and support. Kent valued those friendships well beyond their professional connection.
Away from work, he enjoyed cooking, entertaining, music and traveling. He had a gift for bringing people together and making others feel comfortable and welcome. Friends and family will now hold onto those everyday memories as they cope with his absence.
